Project H2O provides water coolers for the classrooms at Grove Schools. Each year we ask parents, local businesses and community members to sponsor a water cooler. The price to sponsor a cooler is $175 for the year. So far this year, Project H2O has raised $8000. This program is run by Audrey Crawford and Hometown Water. We still need to raise $1000 to cover the costs of the water for the school year. If you or anyone you know is able to help, please contact Audrey Crawford at drsecjr@aol.com.

Thank you for all the community does to support Grove Schools.

Hello ladies.

Hopefully this week will not be as crazy as last week and we will get all rested up and ready for a GREAT Teacher Appreciation Week.
It is May 4-8 and we have great things planned. Big thank you's to all of you who are such great helpers.
A note will go out with the kids this week and tell all about the activites. I have put all of the information from the note at the bottom of this email.

We are still needing parent volunteers to cover classes on Friday, especially in Pre-K. Please pass this on to anyone you may know.

Joan Johnson is getting b'fast together and Julie Pace will get it set up for Monday morning. If you are free and would like to help, let me know.

We still need a creative volunteer to help come up with a clever way to judge the baby pic contest...let the kids pick who they think is there teacher, let the teachers pick too, maybe, maybe not...please oh creative one out there...let me hear from you.

Wednesday...got it covered...thanks to Angie Sadd and Walmart. We will need some help stuffing bags. Maybe Monday, the 4th an hour or so before pick up...anybody interested in helping with "stuffing"...let me know.

Thursday...measure up day...got the cake taken care of and the goodies...

Friday...just volunteer help in the class rooms...once that is covered any help to set up, serve and clean up for the Fiesta would be helpful.

You are all wonderful and we couldn't do this without the great support of US parents as a team.
I have so loved this year!!!
Any donations for the "door prizes" at the fiesta???Just let me know.

Danielle Decker, 918-540-4120

Welcome Back Grove Staff!

We have a new year upon us and Grove is expanding to serve both the high school and the middle school this year. Grove PTO is committed to helping parents understand the importance of supporting their children in school activities. We encourage parents and community members to be informed about education issues in order to understand and support our school.

The “T” in PTO stands for teachers and symbolizes the vital partnership between home and school. All individuals in the school community are part of the PTO team. By working together, parents and school personnel can help ensure successful school experiences for your students. Promoting a better understanding of PTO programs and purposes will help us to be more effective in its student and family activities.

Grove PTO continues to find new ways to provide a setting for parents, teachers, principal, staff, and community members to come together to improve the lives of children and families through our programs and activities. As a teacher you are automatically a member of the Grove Parent Teacher Organization. Please try to come to our meetings this year and share your insight and knowledge with the rest of the PTO members.

Some of the programs Grove PTO has planned for the upcoming school year are:

  • Walk a Thon Fundraiser
  • PTO Tailgate
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Homeroom Parent Program
  • Ridgy Reading Nights

Each school has been assigned a volunteer coordinator to help fill the daily volunteer needs in your building. The volunteer coordinators for the MS are Kristi and Francis Murray. The volunteer coordinator for the HS is John Stroud.

Your membership and support in Grove PTO will strengthen our ability to provide the best learning environment for all our students and encourage parents to participate and be more involved.

Dear Parents, Guardians

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new and returning families of Grove Schools. The Grove Parent Teacher Organization was formed last year at the Early Childhood Center and Lower Elementary by a group of parents that wanted to become more involved in their children’s education. This year we have expanded the PTO to include all students that attend Grove Public Schools. The purpose of the Grove PTO is to provide the best possible educational experience for the students of the Grove School System. The organization strives to:

  1. Support the students of the schools with time, concern, and funds;
  2. Convene parents and school staff on a regular basis to discuss, to critique, and to become informed about issues of importance;
  3. Foster a cooperative relationship between parents, teachers, support staff, school administrators; and
  4. Foster a community support system for students in our schools.

The lower elementary teachers and staff will be having their christmas lunch from 1:15 to 2:30 on Thursday, December 18th. Volunteers are needed to cover the classrooms and office positions.  If you are available please contact me or Sandy Harper at the Lower Elementary.  If you wish to help in a particular room let us know.  We will try to honor request, but this may not be possible.

Ms. Tinney is also needing readers in the special needs classroom.  Caring volunteers who can devote even a half hour each week or only one time would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, If you wish to have a float in the Grove Christmas parade, I need to know as soon as possible.  REsponse has been low,  but if I can get together 3-4 interested parents we could still have the float.   Happy Holidays.  Christy Wright

Join Us At Walk-A-Thon 2008

The countdown to the 1st Annual Grove PTO Walk-A-Thon has begun! The Grove PTO Walk-A-Thon combines fundraising with physical fitness. Students will love this special event walking with their families and friends and enjoying school-spirit. The Walk-A-Thon will be held on Tuesday, October 28th.

We look forward to the Walk-A-Thon becoming our only fund-raising event. This is the time to show our Ridgy pride! All money raised by the event will be distributed by Grove PTO to the Grove Principals for special projects in their buildings and classroom teachers to enhance their classrooms. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000. Most schools have shared with us that the Walk-A-Thon has become their most successful fund-raiser by far. Let’s show our Ridgerunner spirit!

Your child will bring home a pledge packet. Each family will be asked to find sponsors for their child as they participate in this fundraiser. We request that the children not be allowed to go to door to door solicit donations. A variety of motivational prizes will be given to all of our “walkers”! Along with healthy snacks and drinks to keep them nourished and hydrated. All students will be recognized and be allowed to participate regardless of the amount they raise.

There are forms in this packet that need to be returned to school by Friday, October 24th.

Our next meeting is Monday night, 9/29/08, at 6:00 p.m at the Middle School Auditorium.  Officers Bloss and Sheridan will be giving a presentation on internet safety for our children.  We have one item of business to take care of after the presentation.  We have made some new changes to our by laws and have a proposed Conflict of Interest Policy to vote on.  The changes in the by laws and conflict of interest policy are needed for our 501(c)(3) application with the IRS.  This is how we get approval for our non-profit status.  The changes and policy are attached.   Hope to see you there. Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to become familiar with your child’s school, to help out where needed, and to meet other parent volunteers. Volunteers are needed everyday to help in the classroom, cafeteria, library, office, etc...If you are unable to volunteer during the school day there are many other ways you can help. Look at the list below to see where you can make a difference.

  • Box Tops for Education
    • Sponsored by General Mills, Grove uses this program directly to earn money by redeeming Box Tops for Educational labels from General Mills products. These labels are collected through the classrooms. Volunteers cut, sort and count them.
  • Family Fun Nights
    • Plan and coordinate a few evenings of family fun during the school year. Fun Nights for the 2007 -2008 school year included reading nights, fitness night and carnival night.
  • Homeroom Parent
    • This is a good volunteer option for those who cannot come into the school on a regular basis. This job entails calling other classroom parents as requested by the teacher, to coordinate classroom needs.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
    • Volunteers are needed in May to recognize and acknowledge the dedication of Grove’s many teachers and staff. Events in 2007-2008 school year included breakfast and an adopt a teacher program.
  • Walk a Thon
    • The main PTO fundraiser this year will be a Walk-A-Thon held in September combining fundraising with physical fitness. Children are sponsored as they walk or run around the track or playground. This will be our only fundraiser this year. Our goal is to raise $25,000. Volunteers are needed to help during the event with organization and set up.
  • CORE Curriculum Testing
    • Testing monitors are needed to help during the Oklahoma School Testing Program.
  • PTO Tailgate
    • Our second annual PTO Tailgate will be held before our first home football game on Friday, September 5th. Volunteers will be needed to help with set up, food distribution and activities.
