2007 GHS Band Trophies

We are here for the students, we want them to learn about music through hands on, playing.

          Congradulations to the following Grove Band Students who aditioned and received placement in the Northeastern Oklahoma Junior High Honor Bands. These students competitively auditioned and were selected from over 1200 applicants. They will proudly represent Grove in the Northeastern Oklahoma Band Directors Honor Band Concerts on Sunday, February 2nd, 2008 in the Claremore High School Performing Auditorium at 2:00 p.m.

          The honor band students are Jordan T. (Trumpet), Erin S. (Trumpet), Wade F. (Trumpet), Zach G. (Percussion), Josh W. (Percussion), Morgann L. (Clarinet), Rachael H. (Clarinet), Hannah Z. (Bass Clarinet), Vanessa A. (Bass Clarinet), Charlie B. (Bassoon), Aaron H. (Trombone), and Krayton K. (Trombone).

  • Meeting Place: Band Room
  • Activities:
    • Band Contests, marching in parades, and a bunch of other exciting things to keep any band lover busy.
  • Dues: You have to buy the necessary things through the year.

    • Band Book (Coupon book for many Grove Area Merchants than contains discounts totaling a very large amount) Sells for $40.00
 

2007 GHS Marching Ridgerunner Band

Dear Parents,

 

We are very excited about our upcoming trip to the 2008 American Musical Salute to Philadephia, Pennsylvania. This is a great honor to have been selected as a representative from Oklahoma! Our band will be featured in The Hershey "Music in the Parks Festival", in Hershey, Pennsylania.

The total package for each student for each student is $650.00. This includes transportation on a charter bus for a round trip to Philadelphia and back to Grove. It includes six meals, three breakfasts, three dinners, and three nights in a first class hotel just outside of the Philadelphia area. There will be ten meals that you will need to pay for on your own. Please bring you own spending money for souvenirs.

While we are in Philadelphia, highlights of the trip will include the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, Founder Hall, and many more historical sights.

As you can see, we will be very busy sight-seeing and performing while representing our community and state as The Pride of Grove for a national audience.

This trip is to provide Educational Value, Performance Opportunities, and lots of Fun and Excitement! We will leave Grove by charter bus on Wednesday, April 30th and return Monday, May 5th, 2008.

We have tried very hard to keep the cost at a minimum and also have a first class trip. We have also offered many fundraisers for each student to help finance the trip. If you have any questions about the trip please feel free to call the band room at 786-3970 a.m. or 786-7291 p.m. We will have an account set up for each student.

Also please sign to acknowledge that according to Fame our Travel Company there will be NO REFUNDS even if your child becomes ineligible from his or her Academics and cannot go on the trip.

Achievements and Successes

Pryor

The GHS Bands first contest was a great success as they placed 1st in the Pryor Invitational Marching Contest prelims on Saturday, October 6th. The GHS Color Guard and Percussion also placed first in prelims. The Band qualified for finals and placed 10th overall out of 50 bands.

Huntsville

The GHS Band continued on to their second contest of the season, the Huntsville, Arkansas 3 State Marching Contest on October 13th, and again placed 1st in prelims. The Pride of Grove also won best Percussion, Best in Music, and Best General Effect in prelims. The band qualified for finals and took 2nd place out of all classes combined.

Skiatook

Wednesday, October 17th the GHS Band finished up with their last contest for marching season at  the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest in Skiatook. The band received 3 superior ratings in class 3A. The GHS Color Guard also received a superior rating for flag competition at the OSSAA contest.

Receiving a superior rating at the OSSAA contest put the band in the running for a Sweepstakes. A Sweepstakes is achieved by receiving a superior rating in Marching, Contest, and Sight Reading.

On Friday, October 26th the GHS Band presented their annual "Light Show" during the half-time at the Grove vs. Wagoner game for a Grove record of 5,500 people! The bands theme this year was "West Side Story." The tunes included Tonight/America, Color Guard feature, Maria/Cool, and a percussion feature, Jet Song.

Grove High School All District Honors Band

Congratulations to these students for making the Northeastern High School All-District Honor Band. Brittani Hale-Oboe-4th Chair Symphonic band, Corey Swartz-Trumpet-12th chair-Symphoneic Band, Kylie Snow 2nd chair Concert Band, Dakota Summerfield- Tuba 1st chair-Consert Band, Patrick Malone-Trombone- 7th Chair- Concert Band, Lauren Roode-Tuba-5th Chair-Concert Band, Jordan Wilhelm-Baritone Horn-1st Chair-Symphonic Band, Sophie Smith-Tenor Saxophone-1st Chair Symphonic Band, Heather Lungren-Flute-9th Chair Symphonic, Lea Brewer-Clarinet-5th Chair-Concert Band, Matt Gallman-Clarinet-11th Chair-Symphonic Band, Destiny Hodges-Clarinet-9th Chair-Symohonic Band, Wendy Slater-French Horn-4th Chair-Symmponic Band, Joseph Craven-Percussion-6th Chair-Concert band. Twelve Grove Musicaians also qualified for the second round audition for the All-State Concert Band held on December 1st, 2007 at Westmoore High School. The NBDA All-District Concert Band will present their concert on Saturday, January 5th, 2008 at the new Bartlesville Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. Grove High School All State Honors Band

Congratuations to Wendy Slater-French Horn, Jordan Wilhelm-Euphonium, for making the 2007 Oklahome All-Sate Honor Band on Saturday, December 1st, 2007. Over 1800 musicians auditioned for 112 positions in the band.  Way to play Wendy, and Jordan! GHS is very proud of you! The All-state concert will be on Saturday, January 19,2008 at 2:30 at the Performing Arts Center in down town Tulsa during the Oklahome Music Educators Convention.

These students auditions three separates times to make the all-state band. In the final audition round there were 74  French Horns and Wendy 5th overall. Wendy was selected as 5th chair for the Hour Orchestra. IN the Euphonium final audtition there were 47 Euphoniums and Jordan was selected 4th chair for the All-State Honor Concert Band.

Jordan also made 2nd chair trombone inthe All State Honor Jazz Band. He chose to participate in the concert band. Students that make two groups have to decide what group to play in. Wendy Slater is a one year member of the Northeastern All-District Honer Band. Jordan wilhelm is a five year member ofthe Northeastern All-District Honor Band. The All-State Honor Groups Will Practice and perform at the Oklahoma Music Educators Convention in Tulsa in January.

Grove Band Students Prove A Hit

The Grove schools Band Solo and Ensemble troupe competed at the District Solo and Ensemble Contest in Owasso last month and came home with some big awards.

At the district meet the GHS band qualified twenty-two solos and eight ensembles for the OSSAA State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Oklahoma State University. The Grove Middle School band also competed at the district meet in Owasso and pulled in eight different awards.

The Grove High School Concert Band recently competed in the Pre-District Concert Band Contest at Pryor and received Superior ratings from the judges. The concert band performed “The Huntress” by K.L. King and also played the overture “Symphonic Journey No. 1” by Roland Barrett.

Receiving Superior ratings for a solo performance at the Owasso meet for the GHS band were: Tyler Linn, Jordan Teel, trumpet; Wendy Slayter, French horn; Aron Hodges, trombone; Jordan Wilhelm, baritone; Heather Lungren, Taylor Fields, Ashley Slater, flute; Stephanie Killion, Morgann Lenhart, Destiny Hodges, clarinet; Brittani Hale, oboe; Clint Kidd, Shannon Moser, Krystal Thomas, alto saxophone; Kylie Snow, Dakota Summerfield, Loren Roode, tuba; Sophie Smith, tenor saxophone; Josh Wilhelm, Zach Goins, Joseph Craven, mallets.

Josh Berndt on the trumpet and Stephanie Higgins on the flute each received Excellent ratings from the judges.

Receiving Superior ratings for an ensemble performance at the Owasso meet for the GHS band were: Kylie Snow, Jordan Wilhelm, Wendy Slayter, Patrick Malone, Corey Swartz, and Tyler Linn with a brass sextet. Kylie Snow, Dakota Summerfield, Jordan Wilhelm, and Loren Roode with a brass quartet. Jordan Wilhelm, Patrick Malone, and Aron Hodges with a trombone trio. Heather Lungren, Brittani Hale, and Ashley Slayter with a flute trio. Kailey Threet, Shannon Moser, and Krystal Thomas with a saxophone trio. Morgann Lenhart, Racheal Hole, and Kelseay Bomar with a clarinet trio. Destiny Hodges, Matt Gallman, and Lea Brewer with a clarinet trio. Heather Lungren, Matt Gallman, Aron Romasanta, Joseph Craven, Josh Wilhelm, and Zach Goins with a percussion ensemble.

Jordan Teel, Kylie Snow, Patrick Malone, Tyler Lane, and Tyler Linn received an Excellent rating for their brass quintet as did Megan Linn, Stephanie Higgins, and Matt Gallman for their clarinet trio.

Grove Band Takes State


On April 17th, 2008, the Grove High School Band headed to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to the OSSAA State Concert Band Contest. The Band recieved three Superior Ratings in performance and three Superior Rating in Sight Reading. After the past year's achievements in recieving a Superior Rating at Regional Marching Band Contest, a Superior Rating in Concert and Sight Reading at District Contest, and a Superior Rating in Concert and Sight Reading at State Contest, the band brought home a Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association Sweepstakes Award. This is a very high and honorable award! Congratulations!!!!!
