I was teaching FACS in Arkansas public school when my husband was transferred from Heber Springs to the Grand Lake area. I began researching schools in the area. The school I would choose would be a very important decision. My child was going to be starting kindergarten where ever I chose to teach. We decided Grove was a great place for both of us.

1979   graduate Blackwell High School

1981   Graduate Northern Oklahoma College

1984   Graduate University of central Oklahoma

2000    Graduate hours from university of Arkansas

Student Teaching            John Marshall High School OKC

Internship for Teaching    Dale High School (near Shawnee)

I graduated from college and went to work for conoco Oil Company in Ponca City for 5 years.

I then moved to San Diego California where I worked in a jewelry store.

I moved to Tulsa where I managed Charlie Mitchell’s Restaurant for 5 years!

I did route sales for Schwans foods for 5 years in Owasso, Collinsville and Skiatook.

I went to work for airborne express delivering overnight mail and packages when my husband and I decided to start a family. When I became pregnant Airborne Express would no longer allow me to work for them. They felt it was unsafe for me to be lifting heavy package while pregnant.

I became a stay at home mom for the next few years.

I worked in a hair salon in Tulsa for a couple of years before moving to Arkansas.

I started my teaching career when I moved to Arkansas 15 years after graduating with my degree in education. What a challenge, but I was so excited. I taught 2 years at Shirley High School.

This is my 8th year at Grove High School. This year I teach 3rd, 4th and, 5th hours at the middle school.

I have been married to my husband jerry for 20 years. We have 1 son, Chase who is 10. I also have a niece Jader who is 11 and lives with us. My husband has worked for Arrow Head Boat Sales for 8 years now. He sales boats and manages the cedar Prot location by the dam in Disney! We live on the lake there. My children and I drive to school in Grove everyday. My family and I enjoy all outdoor sports and activities. I love to cook and sew.

I teach teen living, food and nutrition, sewing and facs1, which is an introductory level to all areas of home Ec. I have a great passion for teenagers and helping others. I have a great understanding of them and they often rely on me for help and advice. They know I will tell them just how it is, but at the same time have a lot of compassion and advice.

Everyday Life Skills

A variety of methods, including demonstrations and lots of hands on activities. We also use a lot of equipment including a new industrial embroidery machine which we just received with a grant. Every student makes 1 quilt square and at the end of the year 1 lucky student will get to take the quilt home.

  1. Be kind and considerate to everyone. It really hurts my feelings when someone makes fun of another person.
  2. I don’t mind if you talk while you work, but you must be quiet wile I talk.
  3. If its not your lab day, stay out of the kitchen.
  4. Have fun while you learn.

I am very easy to communicate with and I appreciate parent involvement and communications.

I Co-Sponsor FCCLA (Family, Careers, Community Leaders of America) with Mrs. Crawford. This year we have 60 members.
