My name is Terri Guthridge and I am the music teacher at the lower elementary. I teach music to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.
I have 2 children of my own; TJ—15 years old, and Hannah—5 years old. Besides God Almighty and my family, music is my passion. My goal is not only to teach the PASS skills, but to help them discover the exciting world of music they didn't’t even know existed.
There are many objectives in music that are broken down in 4 main Oklahoma PASS skills that I am required to teach. I hope to expand music beyond the “standard limits” of the elementary school and give students the confidence to explore beyond the “educational standards”. I do a variety of creative activities that not only teach the 4 main ingredients of music, (rhythm, beat, melody, and temp) but I also make sure that music connects with the other core subjects, as well. I believe creative teaching will lead students to creative thinking, which is a very important part of their learning process. With all the emphasis on testing in the school systems, the Arts are a way to inspire creative and imaginative confidence in the students to enable them to address different challenges in the future. Music is more than just singing and playing instruments. I want to give my students the opportunity to learn as much as they can about music while they are young and impressionable.
