I have returned to teaching after three years of being at home with my young
children. The opportunity was presented for the transitional first class
and I was very excited about the possibilities with teaching this class.
About Your Education:
I have a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from NSU in
Tahleqhah, OK.
About Your Career History
I began teaching 4th grade in Rogers, AR for three years. I taught 6th
and 8th grade World History and American History for one year in Gravette,
AR, moved to the lower elementary and taught 2nd grade for three years, and
then kindergarten for two years all in Gravette, AR.
About your Family (Optional)
Happily married to Dale Andrews. We have two beautiful daughters Emily (5
yrs. old) and Sadie (3 yrs. old)
About your Position and why you enjoy doing what you do:
The children that I teach are not ready for first grade but do not need to
stay another year in kindergarten. T-1 has proven to be one of the most
rewarding grades that I have taught. On a daily basis, the students are
learning and absorbing things so quickly that it is fascinating.
Skills that will be learned in your classes
This year we are reviewing letters and sounds by using the kindergarten
Saxon Phonics. I am using a reading series from A-Z Reading to help enhance
early reading skills. In math, we use the first grade Saxon Phonics. A
daily interactive writing lesson is also done and the students complete a
journal writing activity after the lesson.
Teaching Method (lecture, video, use of materials etc…)
I use a variety of teaching methods to help reach each student using eyes,
ears, and hands. I try to do a lot of hands-on activities and use learning
centers to help practice newly learned skills.
Class Rules
Be Nice.
Do what you know is right.
Listen to the teacher
Do not interrupt unless it is an emergency.
