Hi!  My name is Kimberly Landrum.  I teach Special Education for the multihandicap.  As many

challenges as I have faced the rewards in teaching these children are much greater. This was my first year teaching and I have loved every bit of it.

I grew up in Jay, Oklahoma, and graduated in 1994.  My mom works for Jay school and my dad is retired from the county.  I have 2 brothers and 3sisters.   I married my high-school sweetheart; we have been together for 15 years.  Our son Cody is 9 years old.

Did I always know I wanted to be a teacher?  No, upon graduating from high school I attended NEO with intentions of becoming a nurse.  I am very thankful that I did not complete my schooling at that time. I began working at Jack and Jill childcare center when my son was 3 months old.  I ended up spending 7 years working there.  I loved working with the children there which is why I decided to go back to school to be an elementary teacher. I went back to school part-time when my son was 3.  I eventually graduated from Northeastern State University in December of 2006.  I substituted for the remainder of that year at area schools.  God has brought me to Grove to teach Special Education which is something I never dreamed I would do but am very glad that I have had the opportunity to experience it.  I have loved every bit of it.

Heavens Special Child

A meeting was held quite far from Earth

It’s time again for another birth.

Said the angels of the Lord above.

This special child will need much love.

His progress may seem very slow.

Accomplishments he may not show.

And he’ll require much extra care for all the folks he meets down there.

He may not laugh or run or play;

His thoughts may seem quite far away.

In many ways he won’t adapt.

And he’ll be known as “handicapped”

So let’s be careful where he’s sent.

We want his life to be content.

Please, Lord, find the parents who will do this special job for you.

They will not realize right away

The leading role they’re asked to play.

But with the child from above, comes stronger faith and richer love.

And soon they’ll know the privilege given.

In caring for this gift from heaven,

Their precious child so meek and mild,

Is “Heaven’s Very Special Child.”
