Cherokee Language and History Class--Mrs. Hampton

Five students from this class made three presentations to pre-school students.  Their presentations include the following: Teaching language, students presented a tradtional Cherokee story. "How the Deer Got Its Horns" with animall puppets, food, hunting tools, baskets, masks, dress, buffalo grass and corn husk dolls and they showed how to make stone marbles to play a marble game.  The students enjoyed learning how to play stickball.  Instead of a fish on a pole, we put a fish on the wall for the students to try to hit.

We had time for students to ask questions and ended with the girls singing, in Cherokee, "I'll Fly Away".

My students had two special treats: Harley Buzzard, one of our new Cherokee National Tribal Council members from District #5 came to listen to the presentations and Oklahome State Superintendent, Sandy Garrett, met and visted with the students.

Due to a loss of power in the greenhouse we lost all of our plants this year.  Since we had to replace our plants with new plant plugs our costs have increased.  Therefore we had to raise our prices.  This is  also why our sale is later this year.  There will be no ferns of sale  quality this year (unless you want to wait until late spring).  Ferns should be available again next year.

We appreciate your continued support.  Money raised from the yearly plant sale funds our Award Winning Science Fair.

ATTENTION PARENTS: Make the most of parent-teacher conferences!

Parent-teacher conferences provide an excellent opportunity for parents to bothe give and receive information.  Teachers are able to provide information on how a student is performing, and parents can share information that will help teachers better understand their child.

Before you attend, make a list of the information that you want to share, along with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Sometimes it's helpful to take your child to the conference with you, so that you can meet with the teacher together.  This gives your child an opportunity to be a part of the discussion.

I have provide you with ten parent-teacher conference discussion topice, along with questions to ask.  Focusing on these discussion topice and questions will help ensure that your parent-teacher conferences are meaningful and productive.  (See reverse side for topics & questions).  Please plan to attend and have an important impact on your child's education.
