I grew up in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  At Mountain Home High School, I participated in basketball, volleyball, softball, and track.  I went to College of the Ozarks on a basketball scholarship.  I played in 3 NAIA Division II National ChampionshipTournaments.  During my sophomore year of college, I married my husband, Stoney.  After graduating from college we moved to Colorado.  That was the first of 13 moves that lead us to Grove.  I owe a great deal to Mr. Ron Cash for giving me the opportunity to be in this wonderful school system with these great kids, who have changed my life in so many fantastic ways.

About My Position and Why I Enjoy Doing What You Do:

Everday, I have the amazing opportunity to help young people be the best that they can be.  There is nothing that I love more than helping a child reach their full potential.  Whether it is in the classroom or on the playing field, helping kids to succeed is one of the greates feelings imaginable.  I feel that the greatest reward in the teaching profession is the daily hugs and smiles that are both given and received by me as a teacher.  I provide a safe and loving learning environment, where all children are treated fairly and with respect.  I love teaching because of the students that I have had in the past, the student I have now, and the student who will touch my life in the future.

About the Classes That I Teach/Coach etc.:

I currently teach two subjects, science and social studies.  I enjoy science because of all the hands on experiments and all the cool educational activities on the Smartboard.  I also enjoy science because it leads the students to ask "why" or "how", and that is when real meaningful learning occurs.  I enjoy social studies because of my love for our great country, and my interest in United States History.

Skills That Will Be Learned In My Classes:

Science-

Students learn to observe and measure objects, organisms and events

Students learn how to classify objects, organisms, and events

Students learn to experiment, interpret data, and communicate results

Students learn about Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth Science

Social Studies-

Students learn to use research materials

Students analyze the regions of the United States

Students gain an understanding of the unique features which contributed to the settlement of the

  state of Oklahoma

Teaching Method:

I use a wide variety of materials to reach all types of learners.  One of the greatest tools that I use is my Smartboard.  Thanks to GEFFE, I have been blessed with this awesome piece of technology that I use on a daily basis.  The Smartboard really captures the visual learners, as well as the hands on students.  My students take notes, in outline form, to learn how to organize important pieces of information.  We do several experiments during the year that really motivate students.  My students also love Bill Nye the Science Guy videos that GEFFE provided to our library.  Usually, when we start a new science lesson, it begins with a Bill Nye video.

Classroom Expectations:

I expect my student to be:

  1. Be Respectful
  2. Be Prepared
  3. Be On Time
