Rachel Davenport: A Welcoming Heart Helping Grove Upper Elementary Students Start Strong

Starting a new school year brings excitement, new opportunities and, for some students, a few nerves. At Grove Upper Elementary, counselor Rachel Davenport plays an important role in making sure students feel welcomed, supported and ready for the year ahead.

Davenport has been named the Grove Upper Elementary August Staff Member of the Month in recognition of her dedication to students and her integral role in getting the school year off to a successful start.

As the school year begins, Davenport manages student scheduling and works with students who are new to Grove to make sure their schedules meet their individual needs. She also spends time helping students who may feel anxious about entering a new environment, whether they are new to the Grove community or transitioning from Lower Elementary to GUE.

Her welcoming approach and willingness to help students navigate those transitions have made her an important part of the GUE team.

“We couldn't start our year without her welcoming heart and hard work,” GUE Principal Charla Matthews said.

Davenport has spent 25 years in education, including the past two years serving as a school counselor. After making the transition into counseling, she says she absolutely loves the opportunity to serve students in this role.

For Davenport, counseling is about being there for students when they need someone to listen, encourage them and help them work through challenges.

When asked what she hopes every student takes away from their time with her, Davenport shared a simple message that reflects her approach to counseling:

“My saying is that I may not be able to solve all your problems, but you'll never have to solve them alone.”

That philosophy serves as a reminder to students that asking for help is a strength and that they have someone in their corner.

Davenport's connection to Grove Public Schools is also personal. One of her favorite Grove memories came when her daughter's softball team, the Grove Lady Reds, won the state championship.

For Davenport, moments like that demonstrate the pride and community spirit that make Grove special.

When asked to describe Grove Public Schools and the surrounding community, she emphasized the people who make the district what it is.

She describes Grove as a strong, supportive and helpful community where everyone works together and cares for one another.

When she isn't helping students at GUE, Davenport enjoys spending time with friends and family on Grand Lake, particularly getting out on the water and boating.

She also has a creative side and enjoys flea market shopping and thrifting. In fact, Davenport has a booth at a local flea market, giving her another opportunity to share her love of finding unique items and treasures.

After 25 years in education, Davenport continues to find purpose in helping young people succeed.

Grove Public Schools is proud to recognize Rachel Davenport as the Grove Upper Elementary August Staff Member of the Month and grateful for the compassion, dedication and welcoming spirit she brings to GUE each day.

Thank you, Mrs. Davenport, for helping our students start strong and reminding them that they never have to face their challenges alone!
