GROVE, OK — As we look to the future of our community and our students, Grove Public Schools remains deeply committed to providing a championship level education and environment where every child can thrive. We want to thank our residents for their active engagement, feedback, and passion regarding our ongoing discussions for a long-range facilities plan.
This proposal is not a sudden decision; it is the result of years of disciplined, objective evaluation and extensive community input. In 2023, GH2 Architects completed a comprehensive facilities audit to identify our most critical structural vulnerabilities. Following that, in 2025, the district hired the Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA) to facilitate their Long-Range Facilities Planning process. Both independent assessments, alongside direct community input from our previous bond initiatives and recent community meetings, yielded the exact same conclusion: the district must address our outdated middle school, student safety, and other aging infrastructure to safely and effectively serve our students and community.
These extensive evaluations have guided the district in embarking on our current path. However, we view this plan as a collaborative blueprint; one that can be dynamically adjusted pending strategic funding discussions with our stakeholders.
Hearing your perspectives, both your support for our infrastructure and your concerns regarding financial impacts, is a vital part of refining this path forward. We want to directly address the key areas our community is discussing:
Investing in Academic and Facility Needs: For years, external audits and community members alike have recognized that our middle school facilities require significant upgrades. Our ultimate goal is to provide safe, modern learning spaces that match a "championship level" academic experience for our students.
Clarifying Grade Configurations: We hear the questions regarding structural changes, specifically around grade level adjustments. Grouping 3rd grade with 4th and 5th grades immediately pulls them into an environment focused heavily on "reading to learn" and conceptual math, matching the instructional mindset of upper elementary teachers. Bringing all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students together in one middle school would give 6th graders access to more classes, electives, and learning opportunities that are difficult to offer at separate elementary schools. Every operational shift highlighted by the OSSBA and GH2 audits is evaluated first and foremost through the lens of student benefit and safety.
Athletic Upgrades: Our proposed athletic upgrades, such as an OSSAA-compliant track, are designed not only to support student-athletes but to serve as economic drivers that bring regional tournament revenue into our local economy. Constructing the new track and field complex directly between the new middle school and the current high school eliminates the need for student-athletes and coaching staff to battle hectic cross-town traffic during peak dismissal hours, significantly increasing safety while reclaiming valuable instructional time previously lost to travel logistics. The proposed OSSAA-compliant track will also be open to local residents for daily exercise, walking, and running, while also providing a premier local venue capable of hosting special outdoor community events.
Fiscal Responsibility and Tax Concerns: We know our community faces rising utility and living costs. To keep the property tax impact to an absolute minimum, the district is exploring alternative funding structures; including leveraging tourism and lodging revenue, and evaluating multiple strategic bonding scenarios. Our goal is to secure necessary facility upgrades while aggressively protecting local taxpayers.
“We are Grove” and we want to build this future with you. Grove Public Schools will be hosting a series of public town halls over the coming weeks to present the data from our GH2 and OSSBA audits, share detailed financial breakdowns, and answer your questions directly.
Together, we can ensure Grove remains a wonderful place to live, learn, and grow.
