Ridgerunner Nation:
Grove Middle School received a call at approximately 10:30 AM that a pipe bomb had been placed somewhere in the Grove Middle School. The school administration ordered an evacuation at the Middle School and the roads around the schools were blocked off. A request was made by the Grove Police Department to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad to respond to the Grove Middle School. The Middle School was secured until the Bomb Squad could arrive, coming from Tulsa. Simultaneously, Grove Public Schools and investigators with the Grove Police Department began investigating the origin of the threat. Within a short time a person of interest (name withheld due to being a juvenile) and after a brief foot pursuit, the person of interest was arrested. OHP’s Bomb Squad arrived on the scene at the Middle School and conducted a search of the school with bomb sniffing K-9’s. It was determined there was no device inside the school. The school was deemed clear and school was resumed. We would like to thank the Grove Police Department and their partner agencies who responded, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Jay Police Department, Agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad, Grove Fire Department, and Grove Emergency Management. A special thank you goes out the the Grove Methodist Church for housing our middle school students, Alt Ed students and staff during the investigation.
When we are presented with potential emergency situations, some may be inconvenienced during lengthy investigations and safety protocols. For that we apologize. With that being said, I assure you that the safety of our students and staff remains our foremost priority, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to protect and serve them all.
Respectfully,
Grove Public Schools Administration

Update - As of 1:12 pm, the buildings are all clear. There were no explosive devices found. All buildings are returning to normal activities. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff will always be our number 1 priority.

UPDATE -
As of 12:20 p.m., Grove Middle School and Alternative Academy have been evacuated. All other campuses are in shelter in place status. All students are safe. Bomb techs are on site. They are xraying a suspicious backpack and running bomb sniffing dogs. Middle School and Alternative Academy students may be picked up from the Methodist Church. All other students will not be released until the all-clear has been given from the bomb tech.
We will continue to update you as the situation continues to be investigated.

GHS Families: The issue at the Middle School is still being investigated. As such, in an abundance of caution, GHS is still in a "Shelter in Place" condition. Lunch has been delayed and students are not allowed to leave. GHS parents ONLY may pick their students up if absolutely necessary. Remember, this is only for GHS parents.
Thank you for your patience; law enforcement is working diligently to be as thorough as possible in this matter.

Middle school students were evacuated to the stadium then transported to the Methodist Church. We are still in the process of sweeping the middle school; therefore, all other sites are still in shelter-in-place. At this time, parents/guardians of middle school students can check their students out at the west wing of the Methodist Church. Other sites are not accessible to parents at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

We have received a threat of a possible device in the middle school. The middle school has been evacuated and all other sites are shelter in place. Law enforcement is investigating the matter. Please do not attempt to enter the area around the west campuses. We will release more information as it becomes available.

On Saturday, October 28, Grove Choirs took students to audition for Round 1 of OKCDA JH and HS All-State Honor Choir. These students have qualified to audition for Round 2!
