At last week's homecoming festivities we had the pleasure of recognizing those who have built the great tradition and excellence of Grove Public Schools. The Grand Marshall of this year's homecoming parade was Roy Pollan. Roy has dedicated his life to GPS serving Ridgerunner Nation as a teacher, coach, athletic director and still can be found keeping clock on some Friday nights at Ridgerunner Stadium! We are thankful for Coach Pollan, his dedication to Grove and the thousands of lives he impacted throughout his career!

It has been a busy semester so far for Alternative Education and WINGS Academies in Life Skills class! GEFFE and Grove Rotary Club funded the new chickens, coops, fencing, feed, and supplies last year. The setup of this project was completed at the beginning of this semester. The students have been learning to care for the hens by cleaning their coops, checking/maintaining their food and water, learning what they can give them for snacks, and how to handle the chickens in a safe and gentle manner. The students are excited for egg production to begin in a few weeks! The Alternative Education Academy is working with the Upper Elementary Gifted and Talented students as a service learning project to show the G&T students how to care for the chickens. The G&T students come once a week to help with the chickens.
Katie Hilton, Ph.D from IFF- Danisco Animal Nutrition and Health, spoke to the students about her career as a Poultry Nutritionist. She gave the students examples of enzyme products IFF creates and the typical day she has working with clients to improve their feed.
