GUE was honored to host author Traci Sorell to discuss her writing process with our student body. Traci writes books that are Native American in nature, encompassing students from all backgrounds, especially her Cherokee heritage. In addition to speaking with our entire student body, Traci had an intimate lunch with our 6th grade book club students who had used her novel, Mascot as one of their book studies this year. Our delicious lunch was prepared by our beloved Native American Cultures teacher Marilyn McClelland. In preparation for Ms. Sorell's visit, our students created dream catchers in their art classes, and participated in classroom activities to familiarize themselves with her work. We even had some who wore their Native American ribbon skirts or jewelry in honor of their heritage. We would like to thank Cindy Weaver and Charlotte Bergmann for their work in ensuring funding for this event, GUE librarian Miranda Ward for her work in organizing all of the details and collaborations, art teacher Sherri Ross and Native American Cultures teacher Marilyn McClelland for her collaboration and cooking! It was a great event!

A big thank you to Grove Education Foundation for Excellence and Grove Rotary Club from the Grove Alternative Education and WINGS Academies. GEFFE awarded the Academies a grant which funded a program to build custom fishing rods. Grove Rotary provided a grant for the purchase of jig-tying vises, tools, and supplies. These two projects have come to the point at which small groups of students have been able to crappie fish with fishing rods and jigs they have made with their own hands. We would also like to give recognition and a Thank You to two local businesses. Grand Lake Sports Center provided a wealth of knowledge and extra supplies for jig tying. Honey Creek Landing Marina provided a safe, comfortable place for supervised students to fish.

Junior Parents/Guardians
Yesterday the information below on the upcoming testing went home with the Juniors. There is a lot of good information for both you and the students. The ACT will be on April 9th, and the other two days of testing will be April 16th and 17th. These tests are a graduation requirement. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. Clark at jclark@ridgerunners.net.
ACT Scores are used in many ways in Oklahoma: college entrance, awarding scholarships, gauging student progress, assessing schoolwide curriculum and instruction, and many other ways! The scores from these tests will be recorded on each student's high school transcript.
